Hong Kong Island Photos

hong-kong-island-photosOur Hong Kong Island photos show you images of the main island within the Hong Kong Special Administrative region.

Since the British established the City of Victoria (now ‘Central’) in 1842 the population has grown to over 3 million on the island. Given that nearly half the population of Hong Kong (over 7 million) occupy an island comprising about 7% of the territories total land-mass (about 30 square miles), Hong Kong island comprises some of the most densely populated districts in the world.

Since the handover to China in 1997 the island has retained a lot of its features. Central remains the main business district, the People’s Liberation Army occupies the Prince of Wales barracks and the legislative body still sits in the Legco building.

Poplar visitor attractions include The Peak, The Peak Tram, Stanley Market, Ocean Park, The Jumbo floating restaurant, The Star Ferry and the numerous shopping centres and street markets.
