Hong Kong Harbour Photos

hong-kong-harbour-photosOur Hong Kong Harbour Photos of cover Victoria Harbour, between Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula.

It’s deep, sheltered waters and strategic location as a trade-port and entry-point to the Chinese mainland were instrumental in Hong Kong’s establishment as a British colony. The Harbour remains one of the world’s busiest shipping ports and a variety of vessels can be seen plying the channels, docks and moorings. These comprise deep-water and coastal freighters, cruise liners, passenger ferries including the famous Star Ferry and even the occasional visiting Naval ship. On occasion this will include a complete US carrier group!

The harbour is considerably smaller today due to extensive reclamation. The Harbour hosts two popular firework display on National Day and over Chinese New Year (see our Festivals page).
